What to Expect From Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC Based on Gen 8’s
Rumors abound that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will soon get some major DLC, and Sword and Shield’s DLC may have been the catalyst.
Despite technical flaws, Pokemon Scarlett and Violet are a bold step forward for the Pokemon series. They truly push the boundaries of what a Pokemon video game can be. The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have a lot to offer, including a variety of new Pokemon designs and an open world that allows for a deviation from linear progression. Fans are eager to see more.

For the past 27 years, the mainline Pokémon series largely followed the same formula, with two iterations (sometimes two) of the same game, sometimes followed by a “complete”, about a year later or two sequels. The new generation 8 games, Pokémon Sword and Shield, introduced DLC. Fans are hopeful that Pokemon Scarlett and Violet will receive their DLC expansions.
Shield’s DLC Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield was announced just months after the game’s initial launch. Shield and Pokemon Sword were launched in two waves. The DLC packs were called The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra. Each DLC pack added a new area to the game, which was built upon the existing land mass in the Galar region. Each DLC had its own story with its characters and additional Pokemon, including legendaries.
If Pokemon Scarlet DLC is in development, then fans can expect an experience similar to that found in The Isle of Armor or The Crown Tundra. Some areas of Pokemon Scarlet’s map remain grayed long after the credits roll. Also, some areas such as Area Zero’s elevator are not accessible. Some fans believe future DLC will unlock these areas along with new story quests, and new Pokemon. Fans can also expect to see the third legendary Pokemon in the game, although it is only briefly mentioned in an in-game book.
It’s not unreasonable to expect a DLC announcement regarding Pokemon Sword and Shield in January. The Gen 8 games launched in the same window. Many people are hoping to see the Pokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC announcements on Pokemon Day. This is February 27th, 1996, the date Pokemon first launched. This would be a great idea, considering Pokemon has been absent at the most recent Nintendo Direct.
The current speculation also focuses on determining the launch date of Pokemon Scarlet‘s rumored DLC. Shield and Pokemon Sword released their first DLC on June 17, 2020, five months after it was announced. The second DLC was launched nine months later, on October 23, 2020. If the same timeframe was used for Pokemon Scarlet or Violet‘s hypothetical DLC and it was announced at the beginning of February, fans might see DLC as soon as July.
It is important to note that not much has been confirmed, including the possibility that DLC might be coming to the game. Pokemon Harlequin and Violet were a very successful franchise release, so it makes sense to continue creating content for them.
